Japanese Baseball
Japanese pitcher Hideo Nomo was released by the Kansas City Royals. There is speculation that the Yokohama Bay Stars from Japan may try to sign him. (JapanBall.com, 4/30/08)
Watkins has extensive experience and contacts in the sports and entertainment arena around the Pacific Rim having served as president of Asia Sports & Entertainment (www.asiasports.us) since 2005. He specializes in assisting both US and Asian entities in navigating the complexities of establishing and building their international business. Clients have included media conglomerates, motion picture/TV production companies, US and Asian investment syndicates, sports leagues/franchises/tournaments, and international athletes. Watkins began his career with the law firm of Graham & James (now Squire Sanders & Dempsey) in Los Angeles.
Watkins served as President/GM for the Bakersfield Blitz (AF2) and spent three years working for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Asian Operations department coordinating all aspects of team marketing efforts to the local, national, and international Asian community. He also served as Executive Director of the Spine in Sports Foundation.
Watkins received his J.D. from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles, California, and B.A. in Japanese Studies from Bucknell University, where he spent his junior year studying at Doshisha University in Kyoto, Japan.
